Accountability towards informal settlers in Nepal

We have been implementing a research project focused on accountability, with elements of advocacy. Here is a short reports on activities that is completed.

Completed Activities

• Installation of a hand pump at Namuna Basti to ensure a regular water supply.
• Engagement with key stakeholders to facilitate access to essential services in selected informal settlements.
• Reconstruction and maintenance of a school building in Mathilo Ghostey settlement, in collaboration with the ward office.

Key Developments

1. Improved Community Response
   Our efforts to enhance access to basic services and conduct regular awareness workshops have led to a significant improvement in community engagement and responsiveness.
2. Increased Use of Services
   The awareness sessions conducted in informal settlements have encouraged residents to utilize available government services, such as free healthcare from local health posts. Previously, many community members were unaware of these resources and relied on private clinics for medical needs.
3. Support for an Inclusive Approach
   By focusing on vulnerable groups, the project has garnered strong support from stakeholders. Local authorities have expressed their willingness to work closely with the project to address these pressing challenges.
