Summary

The armed conflict in Yemen since March 2015 resulted in human rights violations that affected women and children in particular, and caused an absence of justice and justice for civilian victims Therefore, the project will intervene in 78 districts in 5 governorates, establishing 5 committees to provide legal aid services to 2000 prisoners and assist local authorities in improving justice services by conducting a review and evaluation of police laws and training 156 police and judicial personnel

Challenge

Parties to the conflict in Yemen committed violations that resulted in the death of 8,757 conflict-related deaths and more than 50,610 injuries, in violation of the laws of war, and neither party acknowledged responsibility, and refused to take any concrete steps to address cases in which it occurred, which led to a lack of accountability and Justice, ignoring the protection of the Yemeni population and creating a favorable environment for impunity to prevail Details are in the attached proposal

Solution

The project will intervene in 78 districts in 5 governorates on several levels: At the individual level, 5 committees will be established to provide legal aid services to 2,000 prisoners. Community level, the project will protect children during conflict. Institutional level, the project will assist the local authorities to improve justice and police services by conducting a review and assessment of the rule of law and the police and training 156 police officials and personnel in the judiciary.

Long-Term Impact

- Improving prison conditions in 78 districts of 5 governorates, and 2,000 prisoners benefiting from arrested, disadvantaged, marginalized and persons with disabilities in prisons. - Training of 156 police officials which improved the performance of community police to provide better protection for communities. - Conduct an evaluation review of local police laws that will improve justice and police services. - Forming 5 community committees which will represent continuity of the project works.
