We are excited to bring you this update from Carolyne Chepngetich, Health Programme Co-ordinator with Brighter Communities Worldwide.
Following the successful completion, equipping, and official opening of the Living Hope Emergency and Trauma Centre, Brighter Communities Worldwide is pleased to share a report on another life-changing milestone: the official handover of The Living Hope Emergency and Trauma Centre to Londiani Sub County Hospital, and Department of Health Services, County Government of Kericho, on 12th February 2026.
The event brought together representatives from Brighter Communities Worldwide, Londiani Sub County Hospital, members of the Londiani Sub County Hospital board and the officials from the Department of Health Services, Kericho County.
During the handover process, a joint inspection of the Trauma Centre was carried out to assess the status and readiness of the facility before the handover. The exercise intended to verify that the facility, equipment, and infrastructure met the agreed standards before transferring the ownership and operational responsibility to the receiving parties.
Maria Kidney, Director, on behalf of Brighter Communities Worldwide, stated that the County Government through Londiani Sub County Hospital now assumes full ownership and responsibility for the facility. This includes operational management, staffing, routine maintenance of infrastructure, equipment, and resources for effective functioning of the centre. The County Government /Londiani Sub County Hospital will also ensure full integration of the Centre into the County health system and operates in line with the county health policies, standards, and service delivery frameworks to guarantee continuity and sustainability of services to the community.
Dr. Betty Langat, the County Director for Health officially received the project on behalf of Londiani Sub County Hospital and the County Government, noting that it will not only serve Londiani but also the entire region and travellers passing through the area and across the county. Londiani Sub County Hospital would incorporate the Trauma Centre into its work plan, with the County Department of Health Services and Londiani Sub County Hospital committing to allocate resources to support its operationalization.
The handover ceremony culminated in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the official handover of the Trauma Centre keys by Brighter Communities Worldwide to Londiani Sub County Hospital. Since the handover, a total of 28 cases have been managed at the facility, including several Road Traffic Accidents.
The completion and formal handover of the Living Hope Emergency and Trauma Centre marks a significant milestone in improving emergency health care services in Londiani Sub County Hospital and the entire region. This also ensures sustainable health service delivery for the local population.
