Update on Bertha and Isabel

Thank you for supporting Bertha and Isabel!
Both girls are thriving—and it's all because of you. Here are their latest updates:

ISABEL:

Isabel is a bright and multi-talented student who participates in several Friends of Adaklu programs. She is part of the FOA Coding Program, where she will be participating in the Girls Who Code Pathways Summer Program. Isabel is also a committed member of our Pen Pal Program, building cross-cultural friendships through letter exchanges with students abroad.

At Nunya Village, Isabel has found a creative outlet—she specializes in making beautiful clay and cane beads, and she recently showcased her artistic skills by painting the front walls of the village (see picture below), adding vibrant color and personality to the space.

Isabel is also a participant in the new FOA Learning Upgrade Program, thanks to a generous donation from Learning Upgrade. This self-paced, digital learning platform helps students catch up and fill gaps in their knowledge so they can reach—and even exceed—grade-level expectations. Although Isabel comes from an under-resourced area, Learning Upgrade is giving her the chance to compete educationally with students from more affluent communities across Ghana.

When Isabel began the program just over two months ago, Isabel was reading at a 2nd grade (U.S.) level. She has now completed the 2nd grade curriculum—reviewing each lesson until she scored 100%—and is currently progressing through the 3rd grade level. We are extremely proud of her dedication and growth.

Thanks to the generous support of her sponsor, the financial burden on her family has eased, especially in covering school supplies. Isabel is thriving academically and artistically—and it's all because of the opportunities you've helped make possible. Thank you for investing in her bright future.

BERTHA:

Bertha now attends the Dawanu Afterschool Enrichment & Snack Program four days a week. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, the program focuses on academic support, helping students strengthen their literacy and numeracy skills. On Sundays, she joins her peers on a special trip to Nunya Village, where she is learning to make beautiful cane beads from recycled materials.

Thanks to your generosity—and the support of The Academy’s soon-to-be 2nd grade class sponsorship—Bertha's family feels a little less financial pressure, and Bertha feels a lot more confident. Her teachers proudly report that she is becoming more social, engaged, and self-assured each week.
