Education  Nepal Project #31566

Students for Students

by The Small World
Students for Students

Summary

Following the devastating earthquake in Nepal, many children in destroyed villages were put to work to rebuild their homes and communities rather than continuing their education. Students for Students allows high school students the opportunity to fundraise in order to provide scholarships to children who are not currently being provided with a proper education.

Challenge

In Nepal, education is not always a priority. Due to the country's status as a third-world country, short-term survival is prioritized over luxuries like education. According to Unicef, 54% of children do not complete their primary education. For these families, they value the rebuilding of their home over their child's education. Another factor that contributes to this is the lack of education provided to young females.

Solution

Although survival is important, in the long-run, education will provide an easier survival for these families. By educating the younger generations, children will be able to acquire a better-paying job and thus benefit their communities both financially and intellectually. Students for Students will work to help 20 children continue their education, and benefit themselves and thus their communities.

Long-Term Impact

Through Students for Students, more children in Nepal will be given a proper education. As they grow older and realize the opportunities that their education has provided, the citizens will want to educate their own children. This will cause a domino effect that will over time increase the number of people being educated in the country.
