Project Summary
The ongoing conflict in North Darfur, particularly in El-Fashir, has forced displaced families to seek refuge in Tawilah and surrounding areas. Despite the significant influx of displaced people, the region continues to face extremely limited humanitarian access, with critical shortages of food, water, and basic services.
The operation was conducted under these challenging conditions, targeting newly arrived and the most vulnerable displaced households. Priority was given to female-headed households, families with infants or elderly members, and those with no income sources who arrived in the area with few to no belongings. The distributed food packages were designed to address essential nutritional needs. The operation was guided by three core objectives: supporting short-term food security, reducing the risk of hunger and malnutrition, and alleviating pressure on overwhelmed settlements and displacement camps.
Achievements and Impact
Through this operation, the most vulnerable displaced households from El-Fashir were reached and provided with essential food assistance. The distributed packages ensured short-term food security for an estimated 400 individuals — the majority of whom were children, women, and elderly people — significantly reducing the immediate risk of hunger and malnutrition. Beyond addressing urgent humanitarian needs, the operation also contributed to easing pressure on overcrowded settlements and displacement camps in Tawilah. The strong targeting approach — prioritising female-headed households, families with infants or elderly members, and those entirely without income — ensured that assistance reached those in the most acute need. Overall, the operation demonstrated that even a focused, time-bound intervention can deliver meaningful and measurable impact under severely constrained conditions.
Conclusion
The food aid operation in Tawilah successfully supported 100 displaced families from El-Fashir, contributing significantly to reducing immediate hunger and ensuring basic food availability. Continued support is essential as displacement increases and food insecurity worsens in North Darfur.
