The Near East Foundation (NEF) has been supporting conflict-affected communities in Sudan since 1978. In response to the April 2023 conflict, NEF adapted its programs to address the urgent needs of displaced populations, focusing on food security, livelihoods, and basic services. Through local cooperatives, NEF empowers communities to lead recovery efforts, building long-term resilience. Donations support both emergency relief and sustainable recovery, ensuring communities can rebuild.
Since April 2023, a catastrophic war has brought devastation and famine to the Sudanese people. We hear stories of lost loved ones. Homes have been destroyed. Many people who were already struggling to make ends meet are now unable to feed themselves due to food scarcity and disruption to livelihoods. Thousands have died, and millions have been displaced, seeking refuge both within Sudan and in neighboring countries.
NEF adopts a localized approach, allowing us to rapidly implement our work in complex situations through partnerships with community cooperatives. These partnerships support people in leading their own recovery efforts, strengthening their ability to cope with and support the influx of displaced families due to violence, while also addressing critical food security challenges.
NEF is uniquely specialized in bridging the gap from immediate relief to long-term recovery. Many of the cooperatives we partnered with in Sudan prior to the war are still active and providing vital support during this crisis, proving the effectiveness of our model in building resilience and sustainability for years to come. Your donation today supports both emergency relief and sustainable recovery, offering critical immediate aid and reinforcing the foundation for long-term stability.
