Worthy of a princess...

A special project for a special guest

Champey Academy received an unusual request on October 20.  A member of the management from Raffles  Hotel Le Royale  in Phnom Penh, contacted us to see if our students at Champey might be able to help with a unique welcome gift for a very special guest of the hotel.

Princess Beatrice of York, a member of the British royal family and  the elder daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York, would be visiting Phnom Penh on October 25.The idea was to create a welcome gift, a portrait of Princess Beatrice,  that would be placed in her room pending her  arrival.

The artwork of our students is well known to the hotel. The Raffles Hotel Le Royale has sponsored student exhibits and  has  also  previously engaged students to create artwork for use in their famed Elephant Bar.

With just a few days to work, two our top students each produced a portrait, one of which was selected by the hotel for presentation to the Princess. The drawing you see was completed in just 3 days using pointillist ( ink dot) technique.

We were thrilled that our students had the honor and opportunity to participate in such a wonderful opportunity. These two students have studied at studied at Champey for several years and this is a good example of how a skill may develop into art and art into a potential profession.

We are deeply grateful to your support of this project.  Not only is it an oasis of calm and kindness, it offers learning opportunities at all levels to our students, many of whom hope to have a career either as artists or performers.

Tuesday, November 27 is Giving Tuesday. GlobalGiving will release $ 150,000 in matching funds and 30+ bonus prizes ranging from $3000 to $100 over a 24 hour period with matches determined at the end of the 24 hour period and awarded proportionally.

Our hope is that these incentives give you a reason to generously celebrate and support the change that you are making in the world when you support worthwhile programs like Champey.  Also, Giving Tuesday begins the annual year end fundraising for GlobalGiving, so we hope that you will include us in your year end charitible contributions.

We are deeply grateful to you all for your support.

Thank you !

Barbara  & Mark Rosasco
