Champey Students Summer Art Exhibition at Raffles Hotel

It was a  busy spring as art students at Champey Academy prepared for a summer exhibition series at the Raffles Hotel in Phnom Penh. The  ongoing exhibition will take place from June 1 through August 31, featuring 3 separate shows: paintings depicting traditional Cambodian children’s games in June, detailed ink drawings  in July  and pencil drawings featuring various themes in August.  The students at Champey Academy are  now putting finishing touches on  highly detailed ink drawings in preparation for the July  exhibit.

In 2016, after seeing an exhibition of detailed ink drawings  at the Royal University of Fine Arts, Mark learned that one of our art teachers, who had studied at the Royal University,  knew this technique and could teach  it to our students.

After completing a period of instruction,  the first  project, which  began  late in 2016,  was for students to use this technique to  detailed drawings of the name- sake flower for the school, “ Champey” a flower  known in the western world as Plumeria.

Since May, after learning of the opportunity for a student exhibition at the prestigious Raffles Hotel in Phnom Penh, our students have been hard at work creating  new drawings, show casing their considerable talent.  You can see a sample of their work  here in these slides and more on the Kasumisou Foundation website link below.

The exhibit at the Raffles hotel is the first “ break through” opportunity for our students and Champey Academy to publicly showcase their work outside of Champey Academy and  to provide some  income to students and also to provide urgently needed funding to help Champey classes to continue.

Your continued support of Champey helps these talented students to continue to develop their talent and we are deeply grateful  to you for your support
