On December16, 2021 Super Typhoon Odette slammed into the eastern coast of the Philippines and cut a wide path of destruction through the Central Visayas region. During that time, many less fortunate residents of this region lost their homes and lively-hoods. The damage was devastating on Olango Island, just of the coast of Mactan, Cebu. This project will focus on purchasing the necessary building materials and essentials to aid Olango Island's residents to rebuild their lives.
The large majority of Olango family homes are constructed out of "native" material and they are not built to any international construction standards. Most of these homes received either severe damage or total destruction during Typhoon Odette. Insurance and Government assistance does not exist. Most of the residents are capable of performing the labor to rebuild or repair their homes, but unfortunately most don't have resources to purchase the materials needed.
Cast Your Nets Ministry members will work with local baranguy and municipal officials to identify families most in need of assistance due to storm damage. We will then quantify their needs, assist in a repair or construction plan, and purchase the necessary building materials needed to accomplish the job. When possible, we will use local suppliers to reduce the shipping and delivery costs, and stimulate the local economies.
As much of the economy in this region was supported by tourism, most of the families here have endured a severe two-year impact due to COVID shutting down their economy and lively-hoods. Now the impact of Super Typhoon Odette and the loss of their homes has taken all hope from these families. Your support of this project will allow these less fortunate people to regain a foothold an d prepare them for better days when tourism returns.
