Summary

One year into our two-year fellowship program, we are so proud of our Fellows. Together, they impact thousands of Ghanaian women and girls, and we are thrilled to offer them resources to support their growth. According to one Fellow, who works to improve literacy rates in her community, "Empowered to Educate is a necessity because it empowers me with the mentorship and resources to ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education for all." With your support, we can make this the best year yet!

Challenge

One challenge our Fellows face is the lack of access to female role models. To address this, we have matched each Fellow with a mentor with whom they can seek advice, share stories, and derive inspiration. As one Fellow said, "I've not had a mentor to help me in my growth as a change maker, therefore this particular component of Empowered to Educate means a lot to me." This year, the Fellows will dive deeper into these mentor relationships to learn how they can truly grow as leaders.

Solution

We address these issues in two ways: by matching each Fellow with a Mentor from whom they can seek advice and derive inspiration as they build their careers. To quote one Fellow: "I've not had a mentor to help me in my growth as a change maker, therefore this particular component of Empowered to Educate means a lot to me." The second is by providing modest micro-grants. To quote another Fellow: "rhe grant will help me better structure my foundation to reach a greater number of vulnerable girls."

Long-Term Impact

Empowered to Educate will award a minimum of 10 fellowships/year for the next ten years. Starting in Ghana we will move throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America. After ten years we will have: 1) a global network of over 100 up and coming female educators in 10 countries, 2) universally applicable protocols for peer to peer goal setting and accountability, 3) a cadre of mentors, 4) linkages with global trainers, 5) university affiliations, and 6) grassroots programs which can be scaled.
