Every year, Valentine’s Day is a moment when hearts and relationships are celebrated. But this year, we transformed February 14 into something deeper — a day of education, empowerment, and life-saving prevention. Together with the Mukdahan provincial health office and the social welfare office, our team brought vital sex and HIV-prevention education to high school students across the region, turning Valentine’s Day into a day of health awareness and hope.
We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and families affected by HIV-AIDS in Thailand. We aim to work holistically — helping children stay in school, supporting vulnerable families medically, financially and spiritually, and providing training and awareness to prevent HIV transmission.
HIV/AIDS remains a public health concern in Thailand, where stigma and misinformation still contribute to new infections, especially among young people. Education about safe sex practices, HIV prevention, and reducing stigma is a critical part of stopping the virus from spreading — because awareness is prevention.
A Valentine’s Campaign with a Purpose
This Valentine’s Day, we took our mission directly into classrooms. In collaboration with local public health authorities and the office of social welfare in Mukdahan, our staff visited several high schools to engage teenagers in open, honest conversations about sexual health. We combined factual information about HIV — including how it is transmitted and how to protect oneself — with discussions about healthy relationships and respect.
Students were encouraged to think critically about choices that affect their health and futures, and were given practical tools and knowledge to reduce their risk of infection. Community health workers also provided information about where to get support, testing, and further guidance.
The campaign was not about fear but empowerment: giving young people the information they need in a context that respected their experiences and honored their capacity to make safe decisions.
A Collaborative Effort With Lasting Impact
What made this initiative especially effective was its partnership model. We did not act alone — but partnered with the Mukdahan provincial health office and the social welfare office. Our campaign brought together health professionals, educators, and community leaders to deliver accurate, culturally relevant education right where young people live and learn. This collaboration also helps reduce stigma and normalizes healthy conversations about HIV and sexual health at the community level.
Photos from these sessions — showing engaged students, collaborative teaching moments, and smiling faces — reflect not only a campaign in action but a community coming together to protect its youth.
Looking Ahead: Education as Prevention
The Valentine’s Day campaign is a vivid example of how prevention efforts can be creative, compassionate, and culturally meaningful. For us as a foundation, it reflects a long-standing commitment to training and awareness — an essential piece of the foundation’s work to protect vulnerable populations and support families affected by HIV-AIDS across Thailand.
With continued efforts like this, supported by local partners and caring donors like yourself, we strive to reduce new infections, fight stigma, and ensure that every child and family touched by HIV-AIDS has access to the information, care, and community support they deserve.
