Project Summary

The "Provide Nutritional Porridge to Orphans in GOMA" project is part of the Listening and Solidarity initiative, aiming to improve the living conditions of orphaned children, particularly those with hearing and visual impairments, in Goma, North Kivu, DRC. This humanitarian action targets 210 orphans living in local care centers by providing them with enriched and balanced porridge that meets their essential nutritional needs.

Context

Goma, a city affected by conflict and poverty, has a high number of orphans, many of whom live with sensory disabilities. These children often face neglect, social exclusion, and chronic malnutrition. The lack of specialized facilities and limited resources in centers like NGUVU YETU worsens the situation. In this context, a rapid nutritional intervention is crucial.

Project Objectives

  • Provide nutritious and balanced meals to 210 orphans.
  • Reduce child malnutrition in the targeted care centers.
  • Create an environment that supports the physical and mental development of children.
  • Strengthen local capacity to care for vulnerable children.
  • Raise awareness in the community about child nutrition and the inclusion of children with disabilities.

Planned Activities

  • Purchase and preparation of enriched porridge (maize flour, soy, peanuts, milk, sugar, vegetable oil, etc.).
  • Daily distribution in the targeted orphanages.
  • Monitoring the nutritional status of the beneficiary children.
  • Training caregivers on proper child nutrition.
  • Building local capacity in nutrition and disability-sensitive care.

Direct Beneficiaries

  • 210 orphans, including many with hearing or visual impairments, living in orphanages in Goma.
  • Care center staff, who will receive training in child nutrition and disability care.

Strategic Partnership with GlobalGiving

Through our partnership with GlobalGiving, we have already raised USD 199 out of our USD 5,000 goal. This collaboration offers us international visibility, a trusted platform for donations, and powerful fundraising tools. With the combined effort of our team and the continued support of GlobalGiving, we estimate that 50% of the goal will be reached by February, allowing us to launch the project immediately.
