The overall aim of this project is to improve food security and nutrition for 200 beneficiaries especially for the poorest and most vulnerable women and children in difficult circumstances in identified communities in Bombali District- Sierra Leone so as to enhance their socio-economic development initiatives; by increasing availability of food by 60% within the district through crop production intensification (100 acres), crop diversification and training on grain storage and drying.
This project focuses on solving Low crop production issues,post-harvest losses, Chronic food shortages during the "hunger season", Very low household incomes and poverty, Unregulated exploitation of forest resources, and Heavy reliance on Agrarian farming, thus, women Famers need to be supported in the establishment of animal husbandry projects and food production techniques to produce meat and dairy products and high-quality food for the ever-growing local market and home consumption.
WOFDA provides training supports on agronomic practices, basic business skills, and support beneficiaries with start-up business capital to reduce bondage labor and negative coping mechanisms (visiting red lights centers, carrying heavy sticks for sale from distance communities, indebtedness, etc.) We also provide school material and tuition fees to the girl child, agricultural support to women.
The project will educate, provide agricultural and business materials, and ameliorate the suffering of 200 women and girls in difficult circumstances in their respective communities. In addition, the pieces of training and other facilities embedded in the project will be transferred to other 5000 indirect beneficiaries within their communities for sustainable socio-economic development and better living standards.
