Challenge

Fish farming in Kenya is a major contributor to the country's food nutrition security, income generation and employment Yet women farmers have been left out in the lucrative value chain. Poverty and lack of land of their own have locked them out of the industry. Women when trained can produce fish for household use and for local market.Climate change has greatly affected rain fed agriculture hence the need for viable alternatives.

Solution

The project will provide 200 women through 20 organised groups with Materials to construct 20 fish pond and 1000 catfish fingerlings per group.Women farmers will be provided with fishing nets and necessary tools and equpiments. They will be provided with training on fish rearing ,fish feeds production ,value addition and and marketing. Extension services will be provided to these farmers to ensure success of the project.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide 200 women with necessary knowledge and skills in fish farming to raise them from poverty while improving the livelihoods of their families and community at large.Project will also enhance food security and nutrition in the community.
