This project will support 30 women in Ullo to purchase essential farm inputs such as quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and also hire farm labor or machinery to work on their fields. This will enable them to increase their crop yields twofold or threefold, expand their farms and also increase the variety of crops that they cultivate on their farms. The incomes of women in Ullo will increase and the nutritional status of women, children and the entire community will also improve.
Women in Ullo find it difficult to purchase the necessary inputs such as quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and also hire farm labor or machinery to work on their fields, in addition to many other challenges which prevent them from successfully cultivating their crops. This results in very low crop yields from their farms leading to low incomes and food scarcity. This in turn undermines the nutritional status and health of women and children leading to anemia and diseases in children.
If women are helped to increase food production their incomes will increase; the nutritional status of women, children and the entire community will also improve. This will reduce malnutrition and anemia in pregnant women and children. Well nourished women tend to give birth to healthy babies which will reduce infant and child mortality. Healthy children normally possess the ability to learn well due to their well-formed brain cells and are also resistant to diseases due to their high immunity.
If women farmers in Ullo receive the necessary assistance through Micro Credit Loans and access to modern agricultural technologies to increase their crop yields, their financial status as well as the micro-economy of Ullo would improve tremendously as a result of the injection of financial capital. This would have a ripple down effect on the economy and help alleviate rural poverty. Parents will thus be in a better position to educate their children and also support them in school.
