Summary of project activities This is the ninth quarterly activity report on Support to 320 orphans with improved goats is a project implemented by Kagumu Development Organization in Eastern Uganda, in the districts of Kibuku, Budaka and Pallisa in partnership our donors under Global Giving arrangements. Kagumu Development Organization and beneficiaries appreciate the support of all our donors that have provided support of kinds to this project. Thanks to the GlobalGiving team for the wonderful work being done. We have secured support from five donors towards the project. This is report therefore is submitted to stakeholders for their consumption. The report expresses quarterly project advancement. In the ninth quarter, diminutive was done due to limited support from any of our donors and any other development partner yet critically, financial support is required due to the vast number of OVCs and their multifaceted circumstances that expose them to a lot of vulnerabilities. Current status of Support 320 orphans with improved goats project The organization continues to economically empower orphans and their guardians in improved goats rearing as a means of raising incomes to support the orphans. Identification and registration of OVCs is still on standstill due to limited financial resources of the organization. In the last quarter, the following were the activities done:
1. Monitored the goats provided to OVCs in 7 households.
2. Visited 45 OVCs in 18 primary schools and three secondary schools to establish their challenges at school. However, they still stud without lunch at school and this is affecting their studies and their performance is still poor at school.
3. The organization procured an improved male goat and gave it to one orphan by the name of Julius of kakunyumunyu village and the three goats that were pregnant delivered and they are yet to be passed over to other OVCs.
Challenges 1. Limited financial resource is still the Major challenge because the major source of funding for the organization comes from donors and the project lacks adequate donors to finance its projects.
2. Resource mobilization skills are still a challenge by the organization. Whereas global giving on several times have organized online training on fundraising, the project leader and the organization as a whole always miss them despite the fact that they are communicated to the organization and this is due to internet facilities.
3. There is still increased dropout of our OVCs in schools due to hunger because some of them cannot afford to pay for meals at school
4. Some OVCs to go for child labour to secure some to pay for meals at schools. Recommendation The organization continues to requests all its donors to give a helping hand to our OVCs and also linking this project to various donors in order to facilitate the growth and development the orphans who live depressed livelihoods Testimony from one beneficiary This testimony is from Isaac who, our OVC who live with her grand mother Sabano Milka in Nakitende village, Kagumu Sub County in Kibuku District in Eastern Uganda. Isaac is now 16 years and is in senior one at kagumu secondary school in Kibuku district. Isaac's grand mother was failing to pay for his school dues including meals. KADO provides psychosocial therapy, school meals and scholastic materials to masimo Isaac, and provided some basic treatment and essential commodities to the grandmother. Masimo is currently very happy and feels good. When you interact with him, his prayer is to become a doctor and vows to study to meet her expectations. His performance in senior one for term one and two 2013 has been very good and it reflects what he wants to be. He has been holding the 1st position with very good marks. This story is true and can be used as an example that if OVCs are facilitated can do better in school and can be good citizen. Prepared by Namwoyo Samson Project leader
