Help180 orphaned households access income & food

Summary:

KADO expresses appreciation to all partners and donors supporting the Retention of Orphan Girl Children in Schools in Uganda Project. This quarterly report (October 2025 – January 2026) highlights efforts to support orphan girl child caretakers with agricultural inputs and provide in-school adolescent orphan girls with scholastic materials and reusable sanitary pads. The team also monitored learners to confirm school attendance for Term One 2026 and plan further support.

Key Achievements

• Monitored 16 schools to verify the presence of supported orphans.
• Confirmed that Term One 2026 began on 10th February, though not all learners had reported back.
• Visited 50 orphaned learners in schools.
• Of 25 pupils who completed Primary Leaving Examinations:
• 5 passed in Division One
• 10 in Division Two
• 9 in Division Three
• 1 failed
• Senior Four examination results were not yet released.

Challenges

• Limited funding to sustain the growing number of supported orphans.
• Difficulty meeting school requirements for orphan girls.
• Rising number of child mothers in schools without adequate support.
• Increased school dropouts due to teenage pregnancies and early marriages.

Recommendations

KADO calls upon all stakeholders to increase support for girls’ education in Uganda, where early pregnancies, child marriages, and school dropout rates remain high.

Summary

This is a quarterly progress report for the help of 180 orphaned child headed households access income and food in Uganda for the period July to September, 2025. The project is implemented in Kibuku, Pallisa and Butebo Districts in Eastern Uganda. The project contributes to improved incomes and access to adequate food among child headed households. This project facilitated 9 households with one she goat and improved maize seeds for plantation in the quarter.

Project Status:

In the quarter, the project was implemented utilizing majorly community contributions and passing over of she-goats produced by goats given to beneficiaries. The project is not realizing adequate financial support from donors and the community yet there is increased number of orphans that require maximum support.

Achievements:

• 9 she goats were secured and disseminated to 10 Orphans/vulnerable children
• 15 households received agricultural in puts (maize and beans seeds)
• 10 households visited  to ascertain project progress

. Challenges identified:

• The number of child headed households in overwhelming and require support yet there is limited funding for the project.
• A big number of child headed households continue to lack capacity to generate incomes and produce adequate food for their households.  

Recommendations:

KADO still requests willing partners to be part of us, join hands and consider dedicating their contribution to support our vulnerable Orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda.
