Summary

This is a quarterly progress report on supporting 180 orphaned child-headed households to access income and food in Uganda for the period October 2025 to January 2026. The project is implemented in Kibuku, Pallisa, and Butebo Districts in Eastern Uganda. It contributes to improved incomes and access to adequate food among child-headed households.

During this quarter, the project facilitated 12 households with one she-goat each and provided improved maize seeds for planting.

Project Status

During the quarter, the project was implemented largely through community contributions and the pass-on of she-goats produced by goats previously given to beneficiaries. The project also received some funding from partners, which greatly contributed to the achievement of its successes.

Achievements

  • 12 she-goats were secured and distributed to 10 orphans and vulnerable children.
  • 10 households were visited to assess project progress.
  • 50 kilograms of improved maize seeds were secured and are yet to be distributed to beneficiaries at the onset of the rainy season.

Challenges Identified

  • The number of child-headed households is overwhelming and requires support, yet funding for the project remains limited.
  • Many child-headed households continue to lack the capacity to generate income and produce adequate food for their families.

Recommendations

KADO continues to appeal to willing partners to join hands with us and consider dedicating their support toward helping vulnerable orphans and children in Uganda.

Success Story

Mary is an orphaned girl currently in Senior Three. She received two goats from the project and managed them well. One goat gave birth to two kids, and the other gave birth to four. In total, she now has eight goats. She will return two goats to be passed on to another orphan-headed household.

She is now able to sell some of the young goats to generate income and provide food for her household. This is a true testimony to the success of the project.
