Summary of project activities

This is quarterly activity report on Support to 320 orphans with goats in Uganda project in Eastern Uganda, in the Districts of Kibuku, Budaka and Pallisa with financial support of donors under Global Giving and the community. We appreciate all donors for the support of the project. Global Giving team is appreciated for the wonderful work being done that has enabled the organization to receive support to manage the project. The report details the achievements for the month of August to October, 2016. It is compiled and disseminated to our stakeholders to enable them ascertain the progress of the project. The details of the report is the current status of the project, challenges recommendations and testimony from at least a beneficiary.

Current status of Support 320 orphans with goats project

KADO builds the capacity of though engaging their caregivers in goat’s rearing to raise sustainable household incomes to support OVCs. This done through training, breading, and dissemination of goats to the selected OVCs care givers and provision of advisory services. However, many Orphans and vulnerable children have not received goats. The rate of bleeding is low because of limited breeder He-goat and this has made project to realize limited impact. Some of our OVCs in schools study without uniform, school meals and at times lack scholastic materials due to limited household income of the caregivers.

In the quarter August to October, 2016 the organization managed to execute the following;

  1. The organization made local fundraising and raised Ushs 200, 000 of which we used to procure three (1) goats.
  2. Monitored project activities in 10 OVC households and met 22 OVCs
  3. Provided treatment for 24 goats in 13 OVC households
  4. Provided only 1 orphan a she goat

Challenges

  1. High cost of improved breeder goats: The organization relies majorly on donor funding and each donor has priority areas for their funds.
  2. Low project cash flow.
    We have got limited donors funding the project and the communities where the project is located, most of the people are subsistence farmers with low income to make community contribution.

    Recommendation

    KADO kindly request all well-wishers to be part of this project and have a helping hand for the social economic welfare of our OVCs in Kibuku and Budaka districts. Children are the future leaders and they determine the future generation.

    Testimony from one beneficiary

    This testimony is from Bosco son of late Mugoda and Sarah of Kachomo Sub County in Budaka district, Eastern Uganda. Bosco is now a 15 year old girl who is living with her uncle because both parents died. Bosco has completed primary seven under universal primary education programme in Uganda, had passed very well but lacked funds to continue with secondary education and was being utilized by his uncle as a chop seller in Kachomo trading center and had lost hope in investing in education apart from the business he was doing which was not his and mot sustainable at all. The project leader counseled Bosco to go join a c vocation school and obtain skills in welding and metal fabrication which he accepted however he requested the organization to give a hand as the uncle could not support him after leaving his work of selling the shop. The project leader took initiative to talk to Bosco’s Uncle who accepted to release him on ground that the organization gives a hand. The organization accepted and provided Bosco’s uncle to rear in order generate incomes to support him. Bosco is currently at school and he is doing well; very happy when we visited him at school and he expect to open up his own welding and metal fabrication work shop.

The story explains the work of KADO in relation to our project of support 320 OVCs with improved goats in Uganda. The strategy of providing goats has attracted many care givers to support OVCs
