Current status of Support 320 orphans with goats project
KADO builds the capacity of through engaging their caregivers in goat’s rearing to raise sustainable household incomes to support OVCs. This is done through training, breeding, and dissemination of goats to the selected OVCs caregivers and provision of advisory services. However, many Orphans and vulnerable children have not received goats. The rate of bleeding is low because of limited breeder He-goat and this has made the project to realize limited impact. Some of our OVCs in schools study without uniform, school meals and at times lack scholastic materials due to limited household income of the caregivers.
In the quarter August to October 2016, the organization managed to execute the following;
Challenges
Recommendation
KADO kindly request all well-wishers to be part of this project and have a helping hand for the social economic welfare of our OVCs in, Pallisa and Budaka districts. Children are the future leaders and they determine the future generation.
Testimony from one beneficiary
This testimony is from Sabano Jessica son of late Muneko Paul and Muneko Jessica of Kabwangasi Sub County in Pallisa District, Eastern Uganda. Sabano Jessica is now a 17 year old girl who is living with her elder sister because both parents passed on (Died). In 2014, Sabano completed her primary seven examinations under universal primary education programme in Uganda. Sabano had passed very well but lacked funds to continue with secondary education and was being utilized by her elder sister as a baby seater in Kakoro trading center and had lost hope in education despite her love for education.
When the project leader met Jessica, he counseled her and also advised her to join Secondary School which she accepted. However, she requested the organization to give a hand. The project leader took the initiative to talk to Jessica’s elder sister about the new thought at hand, who in turn accepted to release Jessica to join Secondary School on ground that the organization gives a hand. The organization accepted and also called for collective efforts from Jessica’s sister in this noble cause. Jessica is currently at school and she is doing well as she surfaced among the top/best five students in their class.
The story explains the work of KADO in relation to our project of support 320 OVCs with improved goats in Uganda. The strategy of providing goats has attracted many caregivers to support OVCs
