At the Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we are committed to uplifting the lives of the elderly, especially those living with dementia, who are among the most vulnerable in our communities. Aging can be challenging, and for those facing dementia, daily life often comes with confusion, isolation, and reliance on caregivers.

The “Support 350 Old People with Dementia in Imo State” initiative is designed to provide nutrition, medical support, companionship, and dignity to elderly individuals living with dementia. By addressing their physical, emotional, and social needs, we aim to improve their quality of life and ensure they feel valued and cared for.

Project Activities During This Period

During this reporting period, the team has continued to provide ongoing support for the elderly, despite resource limitations.

Key activities include:

• Provision of nutrient-dense meals and fortified foods
• Regular check-ins with caregivers and families
• Conducting awareness and advocacy sessions about dementia care
• Preparing for future medical support and wellness programs once funding is available

We are particularly grateful for the consistency and generosity of our monthly donors, whose contributions have ensured that even in challenging periods, our elderly beneficiaries feel cared for, loved, and respected.

Challenges

Despite our ongoing efforts, the project faces several challenges:
• High cost of care – Dementia support requires nutrition, medical check-ups, and dedicated caregiving.
• Limited resources – Additional funding is required to scale services to reach all 350 elderly individuals fully.
• Logistics and coordination – Managing care across multiple communities requires careful planning and support.

Even with these challenges, our dedication remains unwavering. Every smile, every thankful word from our beneficiaries, reminds us why this work is so vital.

Little by Little Fundraising Campaign (17–20 March)

We are excited to remind our supporters that the Little by Little fundraising campaign will run from 17th to 20th March. This campaign presents a unique opportunity to directly enhance the lives of the elderly living with dementia.
Donations made during this campaign, while matching funds remain, will help:
• Provide more nutrient-dense meals for beneficiaries
• Enhance medical support, wellness programs, and caregiving resources
• Ensure sustainable care for all 350 elderly individuals
• Expand awareness campaigns on dementia in the community

Even small contributions go a long way, providing tangible support to those who need it most and ensuring that every elderly person under our care lives with dignity and comfort.

Gratitude to Our Supporters

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our monthly donors who have faithfully supported this initiative. Your consistency and generosity provide hope, sustenance, and care to our elderly beneficiaries.

We also thank GlobalGiving for providing a platform that connects compassionate individuals to initiatives like ours, allowing us to bring sustainable, impactful support to the elderly in Imo State.
Your contributions, advocacy, and encouragement keep our work alive and growing. We feel deeply grateful and inspired by the trust and support you place in our mission.

Next Steps

With ongoing and additional support, we aim to:
• Expand nutritional and medical programs for all beneficiaries
• Provide specialized training for caregivers in dementia care
• Develop community-based support systems to ensure sustainable impact
• Strengthen monitoring and evaluation to measure improvement in quality of life

Every action and every donation moves us closer to a community where elderly people with dementia are cared for, respected, and empowered.

Closing Reflection

Supporting the elderly is not just charity—it is honoring lives that have shaped our communities and society.
With your support, SOHF can continue to bring comfort, care, and dignity to the elderly living with dementia in Imo State.

During the Little by Little campaign, your participation can create a lasting impact, ensuring that every beneficiary receives the care and love they deserve.

Together, we can restore hope, provide comfort, and celebrate the lives of our elderly community members.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF)
