With economic development and targeted poverty alleviation policies in China, the number of people living in poverty has dropped significantly. The number of scholarship students we fund each year is also falling. That's a great news for us!
However, there are still poverty caused by disability, cancer or some kind of seriours disease and other reasons in mountainous areas. Under the influence of son preference and other aspects, we also deeply feel and see that the needs to complete high school or college education have caused a lot of psychological pressure on girls.
2022 is Shining Star's fifth year! As of August 2022, we have supported 158 poor high school students to complete their high school education. At present, we support an average of about 70 poor students every year to finish high school. 96% of them went on to university. 60% of the scholarship students returned to Shining Star to become a university student volunteer!
