Xuan, a first-year high school student at Renhua No. 1 Middle School in the fall of 2024.
A few months earlier, she had taken her high school entrance exam. When the results came out, she was ten points short of Renhua Middle School—the school her family had hoped she would get into. That school is the local best high school, and her family had always wanted her to be admitted.
Ten points short. She didn't make it. After learning the results, her family said to her: "Why were you just a few points short? We told you to study hard, but you watched TV every day." She felt terrible and replied, "Is it that I didn't want to score higher? Do you think I wanted this?"
That night, she thought about ending her life. She felt that maybe this way she could ease her family's burden and give them less worry. But later, she said to herself—she was afraid of dying. There were still things in life she couldn't let go of.
The next morning, her family called her to breakfast. They said to her: "Getting into an ordinary high school is fine. It's the same anywhere. As long as you study hard, that's enough." Hearing this, her "silly" thought disappeared. After that, she enrolled in an ordinary high school.
Shortly before October 3, 2024, the scholarship program organized an English activity. At the event, a female senior who had graduated from Renhua Middle School gave a speech. That senior is now studying at a good university. After listening to her speech, Xuan understood something: Life has many setbacks. You need to keep a long-term perspective. As long as you dare to think and dare to act, there will be rewards.
At that English activity, she also met some new people. She felt that her previous vision had been too small. The world is big, and she should go out and see more of it. She decided to study hard.
On October 3, 2024, she wrote a letter to her sponsor. In the Thank letter, she told all these things and expressed her gratitude. She said that this financial aid had given her strength and inspired her to study hard.
