GCRC provides services for children and youth with disability since 2009 (GCRC, 2015) including those who come at the daily bases and for those who stay over the centre. The aim of these services is to ensure that their talents and abilities are identified, trained to be able to use the skills back to their community.. This includes vocational and community skills such as carpentry, cooking, tailoring, chicken rearing, dairy farming, gardening, leatherwork, safety, shopping etc
youth with disability are faced with various barriers that hinder them from accessing vocational skills training, this can be environmental such as physical accessibility, social exclusion due to strong stigma against them, lack of knowledge due to lack of trainings that are adapted to fit their needs. for this they become dependent on family members and are considered as a burden.
the project will enable the youth with disability to have access to vocational skills training that they can use in their home communities to become independent, productive and accepted members of their societies. not only that but also giving them financial sustainability hence reducing poverty in their families and societies at large. through this youth they become advocates in their communities for all the other youth and families who do not know what to do with their youth with disability.
The long team impact is the change of community attitude about the need and ability of people with disability which including the Youth with a disability to support their families as a means for poverty eradication at the family level.
