This project will disrupt the cycle of poverty by educating the first generation of the highest need communities in Pakistan. Students from the poorest communities will have access to a school on par with the best in the country. It will combat gender inequities by employing an all-female faculty and enrolling girls in parity with boys - challenging traditional gender norms at every opportunity.
Pakistan has the world's second largest out-of-school population and the world's second worst gender disparity. COVID-19 hit Pakistan with learning losses amongst the worst in the world. And, most recently, in the summer of 2022 Pakistan was hit by flooding that put an additional 3.5 million children, particularly girls, at high risk of permanent school dropout. Called the world's largest independent network of schools by The Economist, TCF stands the best chance to address these problems.
The Citizens Foundation has nearly 2,000 schools in the hardest to reach urban slums and rural areas. Children who would otherwise never have the opportunity of a quality education are enrolled in beautiful, purpose built schools. These schools ensure that these students have modern technology, highly trained teachers, and a progressive curriculum. The UN has profiled TCF for "Best Practices in Girls' Enrollment." 100% of TCF principals and teachers are women.
This school will help educate around 150 children, giving them the chance to escape the cycle of poverty. Many represent the first generation of educated individuals who can be financially independent and challenge their status in society. TCF alumni now include software engineers, data scientists, researchers, social activists, artists, doctors and nurses, entrepreneurs and civil servants.
