Project Report | Jun 25, 2023
Report June 2023

By Valeria Ilareva | Chairperson, Head lawyer

With your support, Foundation for Access to Rights (FAR) continues to help people in need by providing free legal assistance. Since the beginning of the year, FAR has provided legal assistance and information to over 5,025 refugees, migrants and stateless persons. We have given all of them a chance to rebuild their lives in Bulgaria and to make them feel less alone in the unfavourable reception system in the state.

In May, a Syrian father finally had the chance to gather with his wife and four children. The family fled Syria in 2013 and moved to Lebanon, where the situation for Syrian people was unbearable. The children were constantly bullied and deprived of their right to attend school. The family lived without water and electricity. In 2021 the father was forced to leave Lebanon to seek a better life for all of them. After over a year and a half, he was finally reunited with his wife and children, who now have a chance to grow in a peaceful environment and shape their future life however they want.

With the help of FAR lawyers, over 14 families have been reunited in the past six months.

A Kurdish woman from Syria who was living in Turkey with her violent husband and their child came to Bulgaria after a very tough divorce. She had no shelter for herself and the child. She was having difficulties navigating the procedure for her son’s humanitarian status. She received help from FAR’s lawyers and was placed in a crisis centre run by a partner organisation. She received legal consultations and was able to file an application for humanitarian status for her child.

A stateless young man from Kuwait came to Bulgaria. In his country of origin, he was deprived of adequate medical treatment for cancer. He successfully received a humanitarian status, residence permit and was able to.

Two young men fled Syria after being threatened with being murdered by their family members who disapproved of their homosexuality. They received support for filling in the necessary documents and lodging their applications for international protection. With the help of the lawyers at FAR, they were safely placed in a reception centre for refugees.

Behind every migrant is a person with a face and a story.

Our mission is to help people in need and show you that migrants are just like us.

Help us to keep helping!
