Support action for women teachers in science

Summary

In Burkina Faso, like many countries in Africa, high pregnancy rates in schools of girls prevents them for finishing education. Professor Yvonne Bonzi-Coulibaly has a dream - to see 20 more women become science teachers before she retires. In order to do so, she wants to support women with childcare so that they can better focus on their studies.

Challenge

In Burkina Faso, high pregnancy rates in schools of girls prevents them for finishing education. Institut Des Sciences (IDS) is a public higher education institution in charge of academic formation of future professors in Sciences in Burkina Faso schools. About 20 prospective professors are mothers and have no facility at home to look for their kids. They come each day at the institute with their child or baby with a girl about eight to 12 years old as babysitters.

Solution

Professor Yvonne Bonzi-Coulibaly decided to take action and start a child care business to support them. Currently, the program is in formulation stage, and user research is ongoing. The target of the research are women who have successfully completed the program and its purpose is understanding the challenges that students face in their daily life. We need your help to support our research!

Long-Term Impact

The long-term purpose of this program is to see the amount of women becoming teachers and professors increase in Burkina Faso, leading by example and bringing societal change, step-by-step.
