As 94 % of Burundian are active, 55,2 % are jobless in rural area whereas 64,4 % are jobless in town. This situation increases family conflicts and deep poverty. Some of Burundian youth become alcoholic, thieves, whereas girls are impregnated at the early age (11% of girls of 15-19 years old become teen mothers). Due to Burundian cultures, these teen mothers with their children are most of time discriminated and rejected by their families, then become beggars.
Due to the higher level of unemployment among youth in Burundi in general, and particularly to teen mothers, the latters are exposed to many problems in the society such as rapes, discrimination, lack of lands and deep poverty. Most of them become beggars, and their children become street children.
In order to face this bad situation of unemployment towards these teen mothers, Faith in action plans to help them to create jobs by themselves and transform them in work givers instead of work seekers. These 50 trained teen mothers in entrepreneurship will be able to provide jobs to at least150 others. we are confident that it will help to reduce unemployment in their community.
Once these teen mothers are trained on entrepreneurship, they will be able to support themselves in the creation of income generating activities (IGA) and some other small businesses which will enable them to survive and achieve their own sustainable development. Not only that they will create job for themselves, they will also become job givers and then become solution to their community. The children of those trained teen mothers will be protected and go back to school
