Challenge

WIRES is the largest wildlife rescue organisation in Australia and we receive around 200,000 calls for advice or rescue help to our rescue line annually. WIRES is not government funded and we rely on the generosity of the public to be able to provide a rescue call centre and to support our volunteer rescuers in their work saving the lives of Australian animals.

Solution

WIRES provides a Rescue Line that people can call when they find a sick, injured or orphaned native animal. Our volunteers can quickly be notified via our rescue systems and animals can receive essential veterinary assessment and treatment where required. Ongoing care costs such as food and medication can be subsidised to ensure the best chance of survival and release back to the wild.

Long-Term Impact

To provide help, care and treatment for all native Australian wildlife in distress and ultimately to rehabilitate and release back to the wild to maintain biodiversity in the Australian bushland.
