Support Children and Families in Ukraine

Since February 24, 2022, when eight years of conflict on the eastern front of Ukraine escalated into full scale war, millions of children have been affected by the horror, insecurity and impacts of protracted war.

With the incredible support from donors like you, UNICEF has been able to deliver swift yet enduring, vital support to millions of children and their families across Ukraine and in countries hosting refugees. Key 2025 results include:

• 425,906 children and caregivers accessed primary health care
• Over 1.5 million children and caregivers provided with landmine or other explosive weapons prevention and/or survivor assistance interventions
• 546,936 people accessed community-based mental health and psychosocial support
• Nearly 4.3 million people accessed safe water
• 66,554 households reached with UNICEF-funded humanitarian cash transfers

Program Highlight: Home Visiting Program

In mountain villages in Ukraine, getting to a doctor can take several hours. But thanks to the Home Visiting Program, quality healthcare services now arrive directly at families’ doorsteps.

For more than two years, Oksana Bihun, a family nurse, has been making home visits to families with children in the mountainous community of Strilky in Lviv region. “Our community is large. It consists of 21 settlements. In the most remote areas, the local bus to the clinic runs only twice a day: early in the morning and late in the evening. So it used to be extremely difficult for families to get a doctor’s appointment,” the nurse recalls.

Through the Home Visiting Program, UNICEF and its partners equip nurses like Oksana with the tools and support they need to deliver essential healthcare directly to children’s homes. During visits, health workers not only monitor a child’s growth and development, but also guide parents on proper feeding, creating a safe home environment, tracking vaccinations, and spotting early warning signs of potential health risks. When necessary, they also connect families to additional healthcare or social services.

As of November 2025, the program has reached over 21,900 children and 33,600 parents and caregivers across 15 regions in Ukraine, including some of the most remote and hard-to-reach areas. By bringing care directly to communities, the Home Visiting Program helps ensure that every child has access to quality healthcare, no matter where they live.

Since the war broke out in 2022, UNICEF has built on its long-standing work in Ukraine and the region to support children and families affected by the conflict. UNICEF's humanitarian response has quickly adapted to changing needs on the ground, scaling up emergency assistance—first with life-saving supplies, and then expanding to provide essential services. UNICEF has prioritized children on the frontline and extended its presence to the most conflict-affected regions.

As the crisis evolves into a protracted displacement challenge, UNICEF is leveraging existing national services and structures to deliver humanitarian programs for refugee children and their families, while strengthening these systems for long-term resilience. UNICEF continues to work alongside governments, international agencies, and a network of partners to deliver relief and support recovery for the children of Ukraine.

In 2025, with support from partners like you, UNICEF has continued to make important progress across critical areas of support, including health and nutrition, education, child and social protection, and water, sanitation, and hygiene. As of August 2025, your support has helped UNICEF reach:

• 366,622 children and caregivers accessing primary health care through UNICEF-supported facilities, mobile teams, and home visits
• 1,440,807 children and caregivers provided with landmine and other explosive weapons prevention or survivor assistance interventions
• 517,530 children accessing formal or non-formal education, including early learning
• 2,913,362 people accessing safe water
