Challenge

China is in a state of emergency after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake rocked the Sichuan Province on April 20th, killing at least 190 people and injuring at least 11,000 others. More than 1.5 million people are affected in this disaster. Children are the most vulnerable in any disaster, as they are less prepared and sometimes separated from parents during the chaos. Many children are scared and lonely - not knowing if they will ever again be safe at home.

Solution

Children in China will require shelter, food, water and other relief supplies, as well as a safe place to play, learn, and talk through their experiences. Save the Children's relief efforts in emergencies include specially equipped child-friendly spaces where kids can play and express their feelings about what they endured, under the supervision of caring, trained adults.

Long-Term Impact

During emergencies in the past, we've helped children feel safe and secure. Working alongside their community, we can provide children and families in China with the support they need to feel that some day soon, things will get better.
