Since November 2024, our mobile psychological team (2 psychologists, 1 case worker, and 1 coordinator) has supported over 200 children in the Sumy region. With your help, we aim to reach even more children in 2025. Your donation will directly fund the expansion of our services in Sumy, allowing our team to reach more communities year-round. It will also support the establishment of a center, ensuring sustainable, life-changing psychological care for children in Ukraine.
Sumy, a region bordering Russia, was partially occupied by Russian forces in 2022. Residents in frontline oblasts like Sumy continue to live in instability, with the city and surrounding areas frequently targeted by missiles and aerial bombs. According to the UNHCR, nearly 589,000 people in Sumy are in urgent need of support. The war has resulted in widespread trauma and loss of life, making the need for psychological assistance more critical than ever as the war continues to escalate.
In Sumy, our specialists have already began addressing the urgent needs of children, including coping with loss, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, child-parent relationship issues, and building resilience. This project will expand our team's capacity for 2025, providing vital psychological care in a city and region under constant threat. The support will also help establish our own center without co-sharing spaces, allowing sustainable psychological and psychosocial support moving forward.
This project will have a lasting impact on and reach over 500 children in 2025, offering critical support to both kids and their parents. In addition, we can provide psychoeducational training for adults working with children in the city, sharing critical skills to better support kids. By extending our reach to Sumy and more villages with limited access to mental health services, we will ensure that psychological care is available to those who need it most, creating a lasting network of support.
