A hopeful future for Anika...

By Sophie Stephens | Digital Fundraiser

Preyasi is a hard worker. She works every single day to provide for her family as a labourer. She wants to secure a better future for them, particularly her daughter Anika, who is training to be a nurse. Sadly, her husband is an alcoholic who abuses her when he’s been drinking and spends all his money on his substance abuse.

Because of this, Preyasi feels she has no other choice, but to ask her daughter to leave nursing school and help to earn more money, by joining labour work.

Preyasi is heartbroken at this decision and wishes there could be another way to secure funding.

She hears of this women’s support group and goes to them for advice. Once they heard that Preyasi was stopping the education her daughter, they intervened and arranged extra funding for the entire family to compensate and to keep Anika in nursing school. They reminded Preyasi of the necessity of women keeping in education and gaining those essential skills to move towards a better life and fulfilling employment.

With the extra financial support and the firm reminder from the project’s team, Anika could continue her education to become a nurse!

It doesn’t end there; the project has agreed that they will fund Anika’s education until she qualifies- to ensure the longevity of this support.

With your help, women like Anika can break free from the endless rounds of poverty and look towards a future which is independent and enriched with satisfying and dignified work.

Thank you.
