When war takes away everything familiar, the smallest gestures of kindness can make the biggest difference.

Kira and Yegor’s father was a soldier—a hero who stood to defend Ukraine as soon as the full-scale invasion began. In February 2024, their family had something to celebrate—their mother announced she was expecting a baby. By April, she and her husband, Serhiy, had learned they were having a girl—a long-awaited daughter.

But war is unforgiving. In May, while on duty, Serhiy lost his life in service to his country. He never got the chance to meet his newborn daughter, Kira, who came into the world on October 9.

Now, Kira, her older brother Yegor, and their mother live in the Kyiv region, struggling to rebuild their lives. With no state assistance yet, and paperwork still in process, their situation has been dire. But thanks to the generosity of donors like you, the Children of Heroes Charity Fund was able to step in.
