Meet Volodya — a boy whose childhood was forever changed in February 2022. His father, Ivan, joined the country’s defense from the very first days but always tried to be there for the most important moments in his son’s life — birthdays, the first day of school, and simple family time together.
Sadly, the family couldn’t celebrate the end of Volodya’s first school year together — Ivan passed away in March 2024. The loss was devastating. Therapy sessions, rehabilitation trips, and ongoing support have become a long and difficult road to recovery for Volodya and his mother.
Later, they moved to Kamianets-Podilskyi, where the boy finally returned to studying offline. There, Volodya found new friends and rediscovered his favorite activities — cycling, sports, reading, playing chess, building with LEGO, and of course, computer games.
When the Children of Heroes Fund offered him the chance to learn programming, Volodya was thrilled — now he could create something “alive” on the screen with his own hands.
In April, he began studying in the Scratch environment, learning the logic of commands, programming characters and their dialogues, adding sounds, backgrounds, and effects. After each lesson, he proudly shows his projects — cartoons, mini-games, and funny characters. These moments fill him with joy and confidence, showing that he can achieve anything if he puts in the effort.
For Volodya, programming has become more than just learning — it’s a journey of self-belief, happiness, and healing.
We believe that helping children explore their passions and develop new skills restores their sense of joy and emotional balance after loss.
