Challenge

Currently there are 580 children with physical, intellectual, visual, hearing, emotional and learning disabilities in Tavush Marz. Majority of these children - 360 children, are almost deprived from social interaction with peers, live in isolation in their communities and are left behind from education. The problem is mainly due to lack of proper access to community based rehabilitation and early intervention programs and the negative attitude and prejudice towards children with disabilities.

Solution

360 children with disabilities will receive community based rehabilitation services. The services will be provided in an inclusive environment and include physical and psychological therapy, art therapy, life skills, sports, leisure and entertainment. It will develop the physical, emotional and intellectual abilities in children and help their better inclusion at schools and community life. The biggest support will be to inspire the children with the feeling of belonging to the group.

Long-Term Impact

Access to services for children with disabilities will be enhanced in Tavush. They will overcome feelings of disparity and isolation impacting on their physical, intellectual and emotional development and self-esteem. They will have equal opportunities to grow up with peers, go to school, get quality education and plan for the future. The project will have an important generational aspect. What is done for children today impacts future of society, because children are building the future today.
