"My left cheek has a port-wine stain. I come from a big, loving family. Sometimes, classmates ask me why my face is a little red. I bravely tell them it's a birthmark, and we still play together like everyone else—it doesn't stop me!"
When little Lun-Lun was born, a large red mark extended from his left cheek up to his scalp. At just one month old, doctors diagnosed him with a port-wine stain, a condition that can lead to vascular complications later in life. For Lun-Lun’s mother, it was devastating news—she feared her child might never be well.
Following the doctor’s advice, Lun-Lun began laser treatments at an early age. The journey was not easy—each session was painful, and Lun-Lun would often cry and resist. Watching their child suffer, his parents were heartbroken. Desperate to find help, they searched online and found the Sunshine Foundation.
Our social workers stepped in to provide financial assistance and psychological support, easing both the emotional and financial strain on the family. Over the past five years, Lun-Lun has bravely undergone 15 rounds of laser treatment. Today, the mark on his face has faded to a light pink.
Looking back, Lun-Lun’s mother shares her gratitude:
"We are so thankful to the medical team and the social workers at Sunshine who have supported us every step of the way."
Now in school, Lun-Lun loves to draw. This year, his artwork titled "I Have a Magic Wand" was selected for our 2025 Sunshine Calendar. His inspiration? A wish to use his magic wand to suck up garbage into a black hole and transform it into trees, grass, and eco-friendly robots to make Earth cleaner and healthier.
The 2025 Sunshine Calendar, themed "If I Had a Magic Wand," features Lun-Lun’s artwork along with many other creative drawings by children we support. These powerful expressions reflect their hopes, resilience, and imagination. With your continued donations through GlobalGiving, we can provide the psychosocial support these children need to grow up with confidence—no magic wand required, just your care and generosity.
