Thanks to your generosity, Global Water Challenge (GWC) and women for water supported Aqua Africa in completing their work to provide clean water to the community of Maiwut, South Sudan. Together, we improved clean water access for 10,000 people in Maiwut and provided solar-powered electricity for 2 schools and a health clinic.
We believe that water is a powerful catalyst for thriving communities and women's empowerment. South Sudan has long suffered from lack of access to basic services and gender-based violence. The project expanded education and income-generating opportunities for women and girls and is supported by a sustainable service model that will provide water and energy for the community for years to come.
The project successfully constructed four water towers and 16 water taps, which were officially handed over to the community in mid-September. To ensure the sustainability of the new infrastructure, the project established community-led Water Management Committees to manage and maintain the water points.
Again, thank you for your support! Because of you, we improved clean water access and provided electricity for South Sudanese who need it most.
