Challenge

Women around the world are the primary collectors of water for their families and communities. The same is true on the Navajo Nation. It is estimated that 40% of people living on the Navajo Nation are without a water tap or toilet. Providing access to clean, affordable water frees up women's time to attend school, build a business, or care for their families. When a woman has access to clean water it enables her to be educated, employed, safer, healthier, and heard within her community.

Solution

women for water is partnering with DigDeep and the Navajo Water Project to solve the existing water crisis across the Navajo Nation. We are focused on the nexus of water-related solutions and capacity building for community members with enhanced opportunities for women and girls - all based on the Navajo Nation's unique context and needs. With your help, we can provide clean, running water to Navajo families and support the empowerment of Navajo women and girls through WASH-focused solutions.

Long-Term Impact

DigDeep and the Navajo Water Project's goal is to reach every family on the Navajo Nation, across Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona, with access to clean, affordable water. As an indigenous-led program, the entire project is community-driven and guided by a council of community members as well as local leaders. By working collaboratively with DigDeep, women for water is also addressing the adverse impacts the water crisis has on Navajo women.
