In Sakroda, a rural village in southern Rajasthan, almost every household had access to safe drinking water. Yet, for many years, 10 families from the Kalbelia community - a denotified tribe - remained without a water connection at their homes.
During a village meeting, community members raised the issue and agreed that these families should not be left behind. With support from Seva Mandir, the Village Development Committee prepared a proposal and submitted it to the Gram Panchayat.
Within a few months, the Panchayat installed a hand pump, fitted it with an electric motor, and extended a pipeline to the Kalbelia settlement. Today, all 10 families have drinking water at their homes, making their daily lives easier and reducing the time and effort spent collecting water.
A public water connection was also created along the common pathway, providing water to people passing through the area.
This change shows what communities can achieve when they come together to address a shared concern. It also strengthened cooperation between the Village Development Committee and the Panchayat, helping them work together to respond to local needs.
Thank you for being part of this change. Your support is helping village groups identify local problems, bring people together, and work with local government to find solutions. These skills can help communities address many challenges and create lasting improvements.
With your support, village institutions are being strengthened through training and support, enabling them to speak up for the needs of their communities and work with local government to find solutions. Together, we are helping ensure that no family is left behind.
