Power of Togetherness

By Varsha Jain | Project Leader

Community Meeting
Community Meeting

In a small village called Junapadar in southern Rajasthan, an underprivileged family faced an unfair situation. They were entitled to receive 120 kg of wheat over three months under a government aid program meant for families living below the poverty line. However, the local ration dealer unjustly withheld a portion of their supply.

In July, he kept back 10 kg without any explanation. In August, he claimed that updates to official records required him to withhold 40 kg. Then, in September, another 10 kg was missing.

Frustrated by this injustice, the family sought help from their community. They reached out to local leaders, village committee members established and trained by Seva Mandir, and concerned neighbors. Together, they confronted the ration dealer and demanded that the withheld wheat be returned. Their unity and determination paid off—the family regained every kilogram that had been unfairly taken.

This could not have been possible without supporters like you.

This story is a true example of the power of living together in peace. When people support one another, stand up for fairness, and refuse to allow injustice, communities grow stronger. On this International Day of Living Together in Peace, this example reminds us that unity and collective action can bring justice and fairness to everyone.

Your modest donation of $170 can help train five village committees to manage their finances and other local resources in a democratic and transparent manner.
