Summary

There are huge challenges in delivering the COVID-19 vaccine programme to remote areas of rural Kenya. We urgently need your support to reach our most vulnerable. Nobody is safe until everybody is safe. Despite the good news that vaccines have started to arrive in Kenya, we lack basic necessities and face huge logistical challenges in order for us to get the vaccine safely into the arm. This project will ensure Communities will get the vaccination protection they need.

Challenge

Despite the good news that vaccines have started to arrive there are huge logistical issues administering the vaccine into the arm.Transportation of the vaccine to remote and often inaccessible areas, refrigeration of the vaccine en route. Lack of health facilities and physical locations where the vaccine can be stored and administered. No electricity for refrigeration. Lack of health staff and volunteers who are trained to deliver the vaccine. No PPE. No way of registration or keeping records.

Solution

This project will purchase much-needed equipment to support the vaccination programme: refrigeration boxes for transportation, fridges for storage in 'outreach' centers, vaccination boxes to access remote areas. Temporary structures (Tents) to act as vaccination centres. PPE. Leaflets and banners to give information to communities as they prepare for the vaccinations. Human resources and training, working closely with Hospitals in Ireland as how to run vaccination clinics. Logistic management.

Long-Term Impact

Covid -19 is a worldwide pandemic. Millions have already died, had their lives affected and the whole world has come to a standstill. The only way out is a successful worldwide vaccination programme. The supply of vaccines is critical but even more so is the ability to administer that supply, once received, in as many arms as possible. Economically poor and vulnerable communities, often in remote and inaccessible areas cannot be ignored. No one is safe until everyone is safe.
