Yes, YOU have made it possible! Dragana Z. is the first child supported by you that has made it to the graduation! She has submitted her Graduation Paper, on the 15th of June she will present it to the School Teachers and that will be officially her Graduation Day!
When we started this project, we asked you to help us help children from refugee and displaced families in Serbia. We asked for your support to help them advance and complete their education so that they can start new lives and get out of the poverty, collective centres in which they lived with their parents, siblings and many other families without any prospect of active life. You responded to our plea and among the first seven children in the worst situation in over 30 collective centres at the time, Dragana was chosen by both Coordinators of the collective centres and our team.
She just enrolled into the secondary school and was trying to become a hair dresser in those days. With the first money she received through the stipend, she bought the scissors and other necessary tools she desperately needed for the practice. Two years have passed and with the same tools she started mandatory internship in one of the beauty salons in Belgrade three months ago. She proved to be hard-working and reliable intern, so she has now been offered to stay for another three months with a possibility for a full-time job.
“I enrolled into the school not knowing if and how I would ever finish it, or find a job. When you came and gave me the stipend, it meant I could buy the necessary tools and practice like everyone else, I could pay for my monthly bus pass and could concentrate on learning the trade. I don’t know if I would ever be able to graduate if it hadn’t been for your support”, says Dragana with the seriousness of a much older person than her 18 years.
In between the school, practice and preparing for the Graduation Party, Dragana is also taking care of two younger siblings, her grandmother and helps her mother in the total of two 15 square metre rooms in the Collective Centre Krnjaca.
Thank you so much for your support! Please, keep supporting our efforts to help dozens of children like Dragana who still live in the collective centres or have just moved out with their families into social apartments where they struggle even more to pay the bills and keep the roof over their heads.
