Homeless, Stray or abandoned dogs are a common site in all Kenyan urban centers. They are often sick, malnourished and full of lice. Children as well as adults often abuse them. Some of the dogs become feral and rabid and are a danger to the community. We are seeking to vaccinate and treat at least 10000 dogs and help other 500 that are critically ill, abused or abandoned by providing them shelter, food and veterinary care.
Despite of their great importance in the society as our companions, in Kenya dogs are not taken care of, they are never fed, treated or housed. Majority of dogs are neglected, abused and in many occasions inhumanely killed for petty and imagined offenses like eating eggs or food. This makes many dogs to flood urban centers where there many food centers to eat the remnants thrown away. This helps to massive breeding of these stray dogs ending to be a nuisance to these towns.
We are seeking to rescue abandoned and stray dogs and provide them with a decent life by providing food, medical care and shelter. The project will be promoting culture change in our society. In our project we are targeting to reach as many children as possible - they are the key to culture change in the way our communities handle dogs. They will push their parents, friends and relatives - this will be the beginning of the long lasting culture change.
Teaching children as well as adults to take good care of dogs will also help to promote good citizenry in the community for the future.By training the general population, there will be better handling of dogs thereby reducing the number of nuisant homeless dogs in our urban centers - by providing education, promoting adoption, vaccinating, treating and sterilization of the roaming dogs population, we will eliminate rabies, manage their population and stop the need for massive killing of stray
