Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) is a community based nonprofit, non-government and development organization. BEDS has been working in the Sundarbans coastal region since 2013 for the socio-economic development of coastal people. BEDS has been trying to provide safe drinking water among the climate vulnerable underprivileged Sundarbans coastal people since 2015. We have re-excavated 3 ponds and established three Solar Pond Sand and filter system and supported 4,594 villagers. But due to little salinity of that water; BEDS has been trying to raise the required fund to support those people with desalinated water (3 desalination system). It is widely known that desalination (reverse Osmosis) is a harmful system for the environment if the ground water is desalinated. The people of the locality live from hand to mouth, so they cannot afford to buy mineral water. They have to depend on rain water. But after the monsoon they have to use the nearby pond’s water for drinking purpose and they suffer from various kinds of water borne diseases.
In these circumstances, realizing the necessity of safe drinking water for the coastal people; BEDS established Reverse Osmosis water purification systems with Water ATM in Paschim Dhangmari and Uttor Banishanta village. Two 500 liter/hour Reverse Osmosis Water Purification systems with Water ATM have been installed by using the existing facilities (Solar Pond Sand and Filter system). As a result the 45% people of the Banishanta Union are now getting access to pure drinking water. But this is not sufficient for the large coastal community. After installing the Reverse Osmosis Water Purification systems water borne diseases like cholera, dysentery, jaundice etc. are about to disappear. Recently, we have distributed 200 water jars among the villagers.
Target grant of this project is 30,560$. So far 7006$ has been raised from 51 admirable donations.
We are extremely grateful to the donors for being with us. We know it is you; the kind hearted donors, who can make it possible to help the coastal people to provide them safe drinking water. So, please be kind to the safe drinking water deprived communities and be with them.
