Bringing Education to Bali's Mountains

When Manikaji students proudly harvested onions from their school garden and celebrated victories on the volleyball court, they were experiencing the results of a truly holistic education—one that combines academic learning, practical skills, confidence building, and creativity. Thanks to your support, these opportunities are becoming part of their daily learning.

From November to February, Manikaji School continued to strengthen its holistic education approach through academic programs, youth empowerment, regenerative agriculture, and the arts.

Learning Program
Students completed their first semester exams from December 8–12, and report cards were shared with parents on December 19, 2025. Parents were invited to attend, creating a valuable opportunity for teachers, students, and families to strengthen communication and work together to support each child’s development. Semester 2 began on January 5 with renewed motivation.

Youth Empowerment – Sports and Computer Learning
In November, students participated in a sports competition promoting gender equality. Manikaji sent two volleyball teams and two futsal teams. The volleyball teams achieved 1st and 3rd place, while the futsal team secured 3rd place. Beyond the trophies, students strengthened teamwork, leadership, confidence, and equal participation.

Students also continued developing their digital skills. Starting with basic Excel formulas and graph creation in November, they progressed to data entry and table customization in December. In January, computer sessions integrated with literacy classes to strengthen typing skills, grammar awareness, and document formatting. By February, students were confidently applying formulas, creating graphs, and transforming word problems into structured data tables.

Dryland Regenerative Agriculture
With the rainy season beginning in November, students prepared planting beds and produced organic fertilizer. In December they planted onion seedlings and green vegetables in the school’s demonstration garden. Some students even shared their knowledge with farmer groups in Desa Adat Kaliaga and Desa Adat Asti. By February, they proudly harvested their crops—demonstrating practical skills, teamwork, and responsibility.

Music and Arts
Students continued learning modern instruments while also discovering traditional Balinese bamboo music, Cungklik. Through regular practice they strengthened rhythm, coordination, teamwork, and appreciation for their cultural heritage.

In December, students also created handmade Christmas and New Year greeting cards to thank our generous donors who support their education.
