High up the NE slopes of Mount Abang in E Bali, children in Manikaji had no access to education until the East Bali Poverty Project opened a free school in 2001. Since then, we've educated over 340 children, with 4 to university! Our program integrates academic curricula with gender equality, life skills, climate-resilient regenerative agriculture and bamboo craft skills. Your support ensures that these and future children can continue gaining quality education and building self-reliant futures
As the nearest government primary and middle schools are up to 8km away down a challenging 1-2-hour walk down a steep, narrow and winding track, and the closest high school is over 20 km away, with no public transport or other options, EBPP School remains the only accessible pathway to education and empowerment for children from these remotely located mountain families living on their ancestral lands - with no roads nearby.
Your gift enables EBPP to continue providing free, integrated education, combining academics with vital life skills-computer literacy, nutrition, reproductive health, gender equality and future career readiness. Students also learn bamboo handicraft and dryland regenerative agriculture to transform their steep and arid land into productive farms, grow nutritious vegetables, fruit trees, cash crops to build sustainable livelihoods, empowering them to uplift their entire communities.
Your support has empowered our educated Manikaji high school graduates with the tools to make balanced choices for their futures and break free from generational poverty by either starting a business, working overseas, pursuing higher education, etc. Through sustainable farming techniques introduced in 2023, they've learned to regenerate their previously arid farmland, ensuring food security and economic stability for future generations. Together, we can transform lives, one student at a time.
