UNICEF reported that approximately 30% of children in rural China were left-behind by one or both of their parents, leaving many to struggle alone through an inadequate education system. To address this issue, EFA teaches weekly online English lessons to 500+ children in rural China, and our trained volunteers provide emotional mentorship/guidance to at-risk students. Donations raised will go directly towards funding educational resources, scholarships, and EFA operations.
A lack of emotional support and quality education hinders the development of children in rural China. The expectation of children to work on family farms causes primary school dropout rates of 60% in villages. Meanwhile, a combination of underfunded education systems, remote geographic locations, and high orphan rates handicap their futures. Many children suffer from mental illnesses due to a lack of support systems such as parental guidance and positive role models, and are unable to recover.
EFA 1) teaches 20 weekly English classes to 5 impoverished schools (500+ students) through Zoom video conference, 2) distributes scholarships and educational resources (stationery, textbooks, WiFi) to ambitious and curious students, 3) mentors our at-risk students as sibling-like figures who provide emotional support, moral guidance, and quality-of-life enhancements. Through these operations, EFA provides our students with opportunities to change their lives.
Millions of children in rural China are trapped within a cycle of poverty that consists of inadequate education and unsupported childhoods. EFA's operations create hope for our students by giving them previously unavailable tools to succeed in life. By acquiring English literacy, gaining emotional maturity, and learning soft skills such as problem-solving, we strive towards EFA's vision to provide equal opportunities in life to all those who need it.
