In the riverside communities of Villeta, many children attend school in deteriorated buildings without proper bathrooms, lunchrooms, or safe learning environments. Their school days unfold in spaces not meant to nurture dreams. This project will transform public schools into dignified places, giving children the chance to grow, learn, and thrive. In a country where over half of public schools are in poor condition, this initiative protects the right to a safe, healthy, and hopeful childhood.
Many riverside schools lack basic infrastructure for dignified learning. Students eat outdoors, bathrooms are damaged and not sex-separeted, no fences secure the area, and classrooms lack furniture and tools. These conditions violate children's right to health, nutrition, and education, especially affecting vulnerable kids who depend on school for daily safety and care. In Villeta, schools are often the only safe place, but even these spaces are deteriorating.
This project restores dignity by building safe lunchrooms, clean, sex-separated bathrooms, fences, and equipping classrooms with desks, chairs and projectors. These improvements create safer, healthier and welcoming environments where children can focus, feel safe and grow with confidence. Addressing basic needs transforms schools into places where education truly empowers children and supports their overall development.
The project benefits 150 children yearly, with infrastructure lasting at least 5 years, reaching 750 students and up to 1,500 over ten years. Clean bathrooms reduce dropout rates, especially for girls. Safe lunchrooms and proper tools improve health, focus, and academic success. A recognition wall in the school will honor donors, fostering pride and community support for ongoing school improvements.
