FOREFRONT International School Education Project Report
February 24, 2020 (FY20 Q1)
FOREFRONT’s progress toward the completion of its project is divided into two axes: construction/architecture and education. Together, excellent implementation in these two areas will make FOREFRONT International School a high-quality educational opportunity for children in rural India who otherwise lack access.
Architecture
With funding fully secured for its completion, FOREFRONT continued construction of its school in Kolluru, India, this quarter. FOREFRONT still expects the school to be completed by late Spring 2020 in order for school to begin for the 2020 school year in June or July 2020. Pictures of the school can be found below. FOREFRONT has completed a management plan for the school and began to implement a recruitment plan for teachers and administration. A group of FOREFRONT education team members, including three teachers, will travel to Kolluru to conduct interviews of potential principals, school administrators and teachers. The school will begin with 40 students from both first and second year of primary school. This will allow for sustainable and gradual growth that will allow FOREFRONT to make any necessary adaptations as the school grows in size.
Education
During this quarter, FOREFRONT’s executive director conducted a site visit of the after school English program. The program is led by a Purna Chandra, an experienced school teacher who receives ongoing support and training from FOREFRONT’s education program staff. Using the Jolly Phonics curriculum, the teacher leads children in English enrichment and wellness activities that will equip them with skills to become leaders in their community. Between 15 and 20 students attend the after-school education program on a daily basis. Over the past quarter, students have completed a review of all letters and sounds. They are currently studying vocabulary use and sentence making. Using their new phonetic skills, students are learning how to connect words together and write.
