Dear Supporter,
We hope you, your family and your loved ones are safe and healthy, during this uncertain and difficult time. We take this opportunity to inform you about the progress our project "School for street-working children" in Kabul has made during the past year.
In 2019 AfD was able to include a sports training to the education program; a secure football pitch was rented to let the children participate in football training sessions. Children met four times a week for one hour (Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). Three training sessions were reserved for boys and one session for girls. As of December 2019, we had 86 children enrolled in the football training sessions, including 18 girls.
In addition to the education and sport programs, AfD’s schools also contribute to the children’s appropriate nutrition by serving meals. Each school serves one meal per day for each child. For many of the children, the meal they receive at school is their only meal of the day.
In 2019 we ran a total of nine classrooms at three different facilities in Kabul; each location was selected on the basis of guaranteeing safety to the children; proximity was also important, as it allows children to easily and safely reach the location closer to them. Since the program was first launched in October 2016, the number of children has been increasing on a regular basis.
At the end of 2019 the program had enrolled 206 children, of which 84 girls.
Following AfD’s efforts to increase women’s participation in the workforce throughout all of our programs, it is worth reporting that the education program employs a team of qualified Afghan women composed by five teachers and one program coordinator.
We would like to thank our donor community and their continued generosity, which has supported the project throughout these years. With your support, AfD can continue providing education to marginalized and vulnerable children in Kabul and offer them a better future!
Sincerely,
The Team at AfD
